Lahinch Golf Club – Old Course

Lahinch Golf Club was founded in 1893 and stands as one of the great links courses in the world — a defining pillar of Irish golf and an essential pilgrimage for any serious golfer visiting Ireland. The Old Course stretches to 6,950 yards along the Atlantic coast of County Clare, running through dramatic dunes terrain that demands imagination, touch and a thorough command of the wind.

The course was redesigned by the legendary Alister MacKenzie in 1927, the same architect behind Augusta National and Cypress Point. His vision transformed Lahinch into a flowing, strategic masterpiece that rewards creativity over power. The iconic Klondyke and Dell holes — two of the most eccentric and beloved holes in all of golf — remain untouched from the original layout, a testimony to the club's respect for its heritage.

Lahinch has hosted the Irish Close Championship numerous times and is annually ranked among Europe's and the world's finest links courses. Visitor green fees range from €120 in the off-season to €175 at peak summer. Advance booking is strongly recommended — particularly from May through September. A handicap certificate of 28 for men and 36 for ladies is required.

Green fees at Lahinch Old Course range from €120 in the low season to €175 during peak summer (June–August). Weekend rates are typically higher than weekday rates. It is always recommended to check current pricing on the club website or by calling +353 65 708 1003, as seasonal rates vary.
Yes. Lahinch Golf Club requires a valid handicap certificate for visitors — 28 for men and 36 for ladies. Please bring proof of your handicap index on the day. This is to ensure all visitors can enjoy the course safely and at an appropriate level of play.
During the peak season (May to September) we strongly recommend booking at least 4–8 weeks in advance, particularly for weekends and group bookings. Lahinch is one of Ireland's most popular courses and tee times fill up quickly. Off-season (October to March) offers better availability but weather can be challenging.
The Klondyke (5th) and Dell (6th) are two of the most eccentric holes in world golf, preserved unchanged from the original links layout. The Klondyke is a par 5 with an enormous sand dune bisecting the fairway; the Dell is a blind par 3 where a white marker stone on a dune indicates the pin position. Both holes are beloved eccentricities that give Lahinch its unique, irreplaceable character.
Absolutely — many golfers play both courses on the same day or over two days. The Castle Course (Par 70, €40–€60) is the ideal warm-up or cool-down to the Old Course. Combined green fee deals are sometimes available — contact the club directly for current package pricing.
