Trump International Golf Links, Doonbeg

Trump International Golf Links at Doonbeg opened in 2002 to immediate international acclaim. Designed by Greg Norman and built on an extraordinary stretch of sand dunes and cliff-top terrain on the west coast of County Clare, the course is consistently ranked among the finest new links courses built in the modern era and regularly features in world top-100 lists.

The layout runs through towering dunes with 14 of its 18 holes hugging the Atlantic clifftop above Doughmore Bay. The course was carefully routed to minimise environmental impact on the protected dune system — some holes were removed and the course now plays to 18 holes with each one offering drama, beauty and challenge in equal measure.

Visitors are welcome but the course operates primarily as a resort facility for guests of the Trump International Hotel on-site. Non-hotel guests can book tee times subject to availability, but availability for day visitors is limited, particularly in peak season. Green fees range from €250 to €395. Advance booking is essential.

Green fees at Trump International Golf Links range from €250 to €395 depending on season and guest status. Hotel guests staying at the Trump International Hotel typically receive preferential rates and priority booking. Day visitor rates vary by season — peak summer rates are at the top of the range. Always confirm current pricing when booking.
No, but staying at the hotel is strongly recommended if you wish to guarantee a tee time. The resort prioritises hotel guests, and day visitor slots are limited, particularly in summer. Non-staying visitors can book through the pro shop or online when availability permits. If Doonbeg is the centrepiece of your trip, booking a hotel stay ensures access.
Both are world-class Atlantic links but they offer very different experiences. Lahinch is more exposed, more traditional and more accessible price-wise. Doonbeg is more dramatic — the clifftop routing, the crashing Atlantic views and the resort setting make it a more exclusive, luxury experience. Doonbeg is smaller, tighter and more scenic. Lahinch is more storied and historically significant. Many golfers play both on a Clare trip.
The course was designed by Greg Norman and opened in 2002. Norman was selected for his empathy with links golf and his ambition to create a world-class course that sat gently on the landscape. The course was originally owned by Kiawah Resort before passing through several owners before being acquired by the Trump Organisation.
