Everything you need to know about Lahinch Castle Course

Yes, the Castle Course is an excellent introduction to links golf. There is no handicap requirement, the course is shorter and less demanding than the Old Course, and the terrain, while still genuine links, is more forgiving. It is perfect for high-handicappers, beginners and juniors.
Many golfers do play both courses in a single day. A typical itinerary would be to play the Castle Course in the morning (a round of approximately 3 hours) followed by the Old Course in the afternoon. Contact the club directly to check availability for same-day double bookings and any combined pricing options.
The Old Course (Par 72, 6,950 yards) is a world-class championship links requiring a handicap of 28/36. The Castle Course (Par 70, 5,594 yards) requires no handicap and is significantly more accessible. Both feature genuine links conditions — wind, undulating terrain, natural rough — but the Castle Course is far less punishing.
Advance booking is recommended, particularly during peak season (May–September), though the Castle Course tends to have better availability than the Old Course. You can book online through the club website or via GolfNow. Walk-ups may be possible outside peak periods.
Absolutely. Lahinch is one of Ireland's most vibrant seaside villages — a surf town, a golf town, and a gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way. The Cliffs of Moher are just 15 minutes away. There are excellent restaurants, pubs, surf schools and walks along the coast. It is a wonderful base for a Clare golf break.
